Books for Amnesty in Hammersmith: Peace, quiet and books for £1… what’s not to love?

UPDATE March 7th: Books for Amnesty in Hammersmith has now reopened! They’ve moved to 181 King Street (just up the road from the old shop).

This place is incredible.

Nestled in King Street in Hammersmith, this tiny charity bookshop is stacked to the brim with some of the finest books you’ll find on the high street. The vast majority of their stock is priced between £1 and £3.50, and they also do a selection of the precious antiques for about 20 quid. And when I say precious, I’m talking the really really old copies of the classics that they keep under lock and key.

The best thing? No background music and the volunteers will leave you to browse for as long as you want. Your money will be used to find Amnesty International’s worldwide campaigns AND you’ll find some real surprises on their shelves.

Anything else to mention? Surrounded by one of the best selection of charity shops in London: Traid, BHF, Cancer Research, Oxfam… they’re all here, within spitting distance of each other.

Budget: Depends how many books you’re tempted by, but you can easily get two or three books for under a fiver.
